George's Tournament Triumph

Lewisham College student George Naiwo (above) is on the second year of his Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology but, as it turns out, has more than just computer tricks up his sleeve!  When not studying at Lewisham College George has been quietly perfecting his basketball skills – but now he’s really given us something to shout about!

Last weekend George went with his team to the Caister Basketball Tournament in Norwich.  It is the largest annual grass-roots basketball tournament in the UK. Teams from all over the country enter each year, from Scotland to London, equating to more than 500 people. In other words, it’s a big deal.

The first piece of good news is that George’s team won the tournament – for the second year in a row. On a personal level George was awarded the Rookie of the Tournament award.  The team went away with gold medal and t-shirts and lucky George with a fist-full of cash!

Well done George! Of course now it’s back to the real world and back to college!  George is working hard to complete his qualification and will hopefully be starting a degree in Sports Management at Worcester in September.
